Bill Hirsch Biography

Bill Hirsch, 58, was born and raised in Arcadia, CA, just a furlong from Santa Anita Racetrack. He graduated from Robert Louis Stevenson Prep School in Pebble Beach in 1969 and then studied Business and Animal Husbandry at California State University at San Luis Obispo. Bill currently lives in Floral Park, NY, and Hallandale, FL, with his wife Mary Ryan, a Sports Commentator for network and cable TV and life-long horsewoman. Bill is the Founder/Director of the highly popular Trackmen Golf Club (TGC) and its award-winning website. Under the umbrella of the Hirsch Thoroughbred Management LLC, Bill is also the Managing Member of five Trackmen Golf Club Racing Stables, five Quindecim Stables, Wade Racing, LLC and Underhill Stable. Hirsch also maintains four of these racing-oriented websites. In addition, he has published several Turf Gourmet Dining Guides as well as Business to Business Directories.

Bill Hirsch became a noteworthy figure in thoroughbred racing during his more than 25 years as the Sole Proprietor of W.J. Hirsch Jr. Thoroughbred Racing Stable based at Belmont Park in New York and Gulfstream Park in Florida. Bred into the horse business, Bill's grandfather Max Hirsch is the legendary Hall of Fame trainer who won 3 Kentucky Derbys, 4 Belmont Stakes and the 1946 Triple Crown with King Ranch's Assault. Bill's father W.J. "Buddy" Hirsch, top trainer on the East and West coasts, was inducted into Racing's Hall of Fame in 1986 alongside his father, Max. Under Bill's management, this third-generation business competed on a Grade I level in many venues, including Arkansas, California, Canada, Chicago, Delaware, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Bill trained 16 stakes winners, including two Grade 2 stakes winners, and won such prestigious races as the Gr2 Matchmaker Stakes, Gr2 Orchid Handicap, Gr3 Stuyvesant Handicap, Gr3 Tidal Handicap, Monrovia Handicap and Congressional Handicap.

Directing the business affairs of a major racing stable requires expertise in financial management, purchasing, cost-effective buying as well as personnel recruitment, training and supervision. During his career, Mr. Hirsch made extensive contacts in the industry with prestigious owners and breeders as well as representatives of the New York Racing Association, Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino, Thoroughbred Trainers Association (of which Mr. Hirsch was a Director) and Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association. Hirsch is currently a licensed Thoroughbred owner in New York, New Jersey, Florida and West Virginia.

Additionally, Mr. Hirsch is currently the proprietor of the Hirsch Thoroughbred Management, LLC as well as consultant for the Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association's (TOBA) Greatest Game, the Thoroughbred Retirement Fund and the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

Bill takes immense pride in the management of his golf organization and his racing stables and has developed them into exceedingly popular venues for everyone. His personable storehouse of knowledge of the Thoroughbred industry and its players is exceeded only by his enthusiasm.
